Why a Newcastle local

Three reasons people in the Hunter call us back.

We know the housing stock around here.

Newcastle is not a one-size suburb. Inner-city Hamilton and Mayfield are full of Federation and post-war homes still running original earthenware and cast-iron drains. Merewether has salt-air corrosion chewing through exposed copper and galvanised pipework. Wallsend sits in the Ironbark Creek catchment and floods. We have worked on all of it, so we usually know what we are walking into before we lift the first inspection-opening cap — and that saves you time and money.

We find the cause, not just the symptom.

Plenty of operators will clear your blocked drain on the day, take the cash, and leave the tree root that caused it sitting in the pipe ready to block again next month. We run a CCTV camera so you can see what is actually going on, hydro-jet it properly, and give you a straight answer on whether it needs relining or a repair. Same with leaks — electronic detection first, so we are not guessing with a jackhammer.

Licensed, compliant, and upfront on price.

Every plumber, drainer and gas fitter on the job holds a current NSW Fair Trading licence. We work to AS/NZS 3500 for plumbing and drainage, Hunter Water’s connection and backflow requirements, and AS/NZS 5601 for gas, and we issue a Certificate of Compliance on the work we complete. You get a price before we start — including the after-hours premium if it applies — so there are no nasty surprises on the invoice.

Common questions

Newcastle plumbing FAQs.

Do you really answer the phone 24/7 in Newcastle?

Yes. A burst pipe, a sewer overflow, a gas smell or no hot water in winter does not wait for business hours, so neither do we. We take emergency calls day and night across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter, and we will tell you honestly over the phone whether it is something you can isolate yourself (like turning off the water at the meter) or something that needs a plumber out straight away. After-hours call-outs typically carry a $100 to $300 premium on top of the standard rate, and we will always quote that before we head out.

How much does an emergency plumber cost in Newcastle?

Standard plumbing labour in the Newcastle area runs roughly $90 to $180 an hour, with most call-outs starting from a service fee plus the first hour. After-hours or weekend emergency call-outs usually add $100 to $300. As a rough guide for common jobs in 2026: clearing a blocked drain $150 to $650 (more if it needs hydro-jetting or there are tree roots), a burst pipe repair $200 to $600 depending on access, and a hot water system replacement $900 to $6,000 depending on the type. We give you a price before we start the work, not after.

Are you a licensed plumber and gas fitter?

Yes. In NSW you must hold a current NSW Fair Trading licence to legally carry out plumbing, drainage and gas fitting work, and gas work is regulated under the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2017. We work to AS/NZS 3500 for plumbing and drainage and AS/NZS 5601 for gas, and we issue a Certificate of Compliance on the work we complete. From 1 March 2026, gasfitters in NSW lodge gas compliance and inspection certificates through the BCNSW eCert system. Always ask any plumber for their licence number before they start.

Why do drains keep blocking in older Newcastle suburbs?

A lot of inner-Newcastle homes in suburbs like Hamilton, Mayfield and New Lambton still have original earthenware or cast-iron drainage from the early-to-mid 1900s. Those pipes have joints that tree roots love, and the established street trees in leafy suburbs send roots straight into them looking for water. The result is recurring blockages. The fix is not just clearing it on the day. We run a CCTV camera to find the actual cause, hydro-jet to cut the roots and clear the line, and if the pipe is collapsed or root-riddled we can quote relining so it stops happening.

My hot water has stopped. Repair or replace?

It depends on the age and fault. If a unit is under about 8 years old and the fault is a thermostat, element, valve or igniter, a repair is usually the cheaper call. If it is older than 10 to 12 years, leaking from the tank, or rusting, replacement is the smarter spend because the next failure is not far off. We will tell you which way we would go if it were our own house. If you do replace, a heat pump can attract federal STC rebates worth several hundred to over a thousand dollars in NSW, which we factor into the quote.
